Astracadabra v1.8
If you already own Astracadabra then these instructions for updating to the latest version will be useful.
Due to the changes within the Astracadabra programs that are installed on the main computer, no patch update has been issued for Astracadabra v1.8.
If you own a version of Astracadabra earlier than v1.8 (you can check your version within Astracadabra by tapping on “Tools” then “About”) then to update to the latest Astracadabra v1.8, you need to fully remove your earlier version of Astracadabra before downloading the latest Astracadabra v1.8.
Before fully removing Astracadabra from your Pocket PC or Pocket PC phone (device), if you have been synchronizing Astracadabra to Solar Fire on your main computer, there is no need to do a separate backup at this point, because all of your charts are stored in Solar Fire too, but you should make sure that all new charts on Astracadabra have been synchronized with Solar Fire before fully removing Astracadabra.
If you do not own Solar Fire on your main computer but have been entering and saving charts into Astracadabra then you will need to make a backup of your charts before proceeding with fully removing Astracadabra. The fastest way to make a backup is to use your Window Explorer on your main computer (right-click on the “Start” button the click on “Explore”), locate your Mobile device entry on the left-hand pane and navigate to the Astracadabra\Personal folder. Copy all the files in the “Personal” folder to a memory stick or another hard drive.
Windows Mobile 5.0 or Windows Mobile 6
If your device has the Windows Mobile 5.0 or Windows Mobile 6 operating system (you can check by tapping on Start > Settings > System tab > About on your device) then there are two important steps to fully remove Astracadabra, as follows:
Ensure that your device is connected to your main computer via the cable or cradle and that it has successfully synchronized with Outlook, proving that the connection is working successfully
On your main computer startup “Microsoft ActiveSync” if you have Windows XP (or earlier) or if you have Windows Vista, you need to startup the “Windows Mobile Device Center”. Either of the these programs can be found at Start > All Programs menu
For ActiveSync, click on the “Tools” menu item then click on the “Add/Remove Programs” item. Untick the “Astracadabra 2004 Astracadabra” entry on the list of installed programs then click on the “OK” button and this action will remove Astracadabra from your device.
For Windows Mobile Device Center, click on the “Programs and Services” item then click on the “>>more” link to reveal the “Add/Remove Programs” item. Click on this item then untick the “Astracadabra 2004 Astracadabra” entry on the list of installed programs then click on the “OK” button and this action will remove Astracadabra from your device.
Close all windows and get back to the main Windows Desktop screen
For Windows XP (and earlier), click on Start > Control Panel (or Settings > Control Panel) then double-click on the “Add or Remove Programs”. On the list of installed programs, locate “Astracadabra 2004”, click on it once to highlight it then click on the “Remove” button. This action will remove the remaining Astracadabra program files on your main computer.
For Windows Vista, click on Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features. On the list of installed programs, locate “Astracadabra 2004”, click on it once to highlight it then click on the “Uninstall” button. This action will remove the remaining Astracadabra program files on your main computer.
Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition or Windows Mobile 2003
If your device has the Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition or Windows Mobile 2003 (you can check by tapping on Start > Settings > System tab > About on your device) then there is only one important step to fully remove Astracadabra, as follows:
Ensure that your device is connected to your main computer via the cable or cradle and that it has successfully synchronized with Outlook, proving that the connection is working successfully
For Windows XP and earlier, click on Start > Control Panel (or Settings > Control Panel) then double click on the “Add or Remove Programs”. On the list of installed programs, locate “Astracadabra 2004”, click on it once to highlight it then click on the “Remove” button. This action will remove the remaining Astracadabra program files on your main computer.
For Windows Vista, click on Start > Control Panel > Programs and Features. On the list of installed programs, locate “Astracadabra 2004”, click on it once to highlight it then click on the “Uninstall” button. This action will remove the remaining Astracadabra program files on your main computer.
Finally
Once you have fully removed Astracadabra from your device and main computer, you can now proceed to download the latest trial version of Astracadabra v1.8 from this link: http://alabe.com/ftp/pub/Astracadabra180.exe.
Once this update has been fully installed, you can use your previous Username and Password to re-activate Astracadabra.
